Most major attractions and malls don’t open until 10:00 AM, but that doesn’t mean you should sleep in. Here is your ultimate guide to exploring Bangkok in the early morning.

Experience Spiritual Bangkok (Temples)

Visiting temples early is the only way to avoid the heat and the massive tour bus crowds.
Temple Of Dawn (Wat Arun)
While the name suggests sunrise, the temple itself opens at 8:00 AM. However, watching the sun rise over the temple from the opposite side of the river is a bucket-list experience.
Arrive at the riverbank (Tha Tian side) at 6:00 AM for sunrise photos. Afterward, take the cross-river ferry (5 THB) to explore the temple grounds right when they open.
How to get there?
Take the BTS dark green line to Saphan Taksin station, trains start running from 5 am onwards.
Transport: MRT Sanam Chai (Exit 4), then walk to the pier.

The Grand Palace & Wat Phra Kaew
Bangkok’s most famous landmark houses the Emerald Buddha. It is beautiful but gets incredibly crowded by 10:00 AM.
Arrive at the gate at 8:15 AM. Being in the first group to enter at 8:30 AM allows you to take photos without hundreds of people in the background.
How to get there? Take the BTS dark green line to Saphan Taksin station. From there, ride the Chao Phraya Express Boat to Tha Chang Pier, which is just a short walk to the main entrance.
Transport: MRT Sanam Chai or Chao Phraya Express Boat to Tha Chang Pier.

Beat the Heat in Bangkok’s Tropical Parks
Bangkok’s parks are liveliest between 5:00 AM and 7:00 AM. This is when locals practice Tai Chi, jog, and socialize before the tropical heat sets in.

Lumpini park
The “Central Park” of Bangkok. It is the city’s oldest and most famous green space.
It is the best place to people-watch. Keep an eye out for the famous resident water monitor lizards (huge reptiles that look like Komodo dragons) roaming freely near the water.
Note: The swan paddle boats generally open later in the day, so come early for the walking and running paths.
How to get there? Take the MRT to Lumphini or Si Lom station and walk north 3 minutes to reach the park.
Transport: MRT Silom or MRT Lumphini.

Benjakitti Forest Park
Located within walking distance from Asoke is Benjakiti park which consists of a massive lake and surrounding path, green spaces, and outdoor gyms.
For the best skyline photos. The boardwalks over the wetlands offer a stunning contrast between nature and the skyscrapers of Sukhumvit.
How to get there? The closest train stations are BTS Asoke / MRT which are both a 10-minute walk from the park.

Benchasiri Park
Another notable central park close to Phrom Phong is Benchasiri which consists of a lake, basketball court, and skate park.

The park is open from 5 am onwards and is within walking distance of the popular EmQuartier shopping mall.
How to get there? Take the green line BTS to Phrom Phong station and walk 2 minutes from the west exit.

Explore the Morning Markets
Experience the local way of life by sampling the many early-morning markets Bangkok has to offer.

Pak Khlong Talat (Flower Market)
This is Thailand’s largest wholesale flower market. It is open 24 hours, but it is most chaotic and colorful just before dawn when fresh shipments arrive.
Endless piles of jasmine, orchids, and marigolds being woven into temple garlands.
The flower market is open 24 hours and will be busiest in the wee early hours of the morning. The market is within walking distance to Grand Place if you want to explore after the market experience.
How to get there? Take the MRT to Sanam Chai station then the market can be found a short 4-minute walk along Chakkraphet Road.

Pratunam Morning Market
Located in front of the Baiyoke Sky Hotel, this is a chaotic wholesale clothing market.
Between 4:00 AM and 9:00 AM, vendors spill onto the streets selling clothes at rock-bottom prices. It is crowded, hot, and intense – perfect for bargain hunters.
How to get there? Take the BTS to either Siam or Chit Lom then walk 20 minutes to Pratunam or take a taxi directly to the market.
Transport: BTS Chit Lom (then a 15-minute walk) or Airport Rail Link Ratchaprarop.
Trok Mor Morning Market
A hidden gem located in the Old Town (near the Giant Swing). This is not a tourist market; it is where locals buy their breakfast and groceries.
Look for traditional Thai styles of grilled pork (Moo Ping), curry over rice, and Thai desserts.
How to get there? Take the MRT to Sam Yot station then walk 10 minutes northeast along Ti Thong road.

Longtail Boat Canal Tour
Head to the Thonburi side (the old capital) to explore the Khlongs (canals).
Hire a private longtail boat from Sathorn Pier or River City. In the morning, the water is calmer, and you can see locals offering food to monks rowing by on boats.

The COMMONS (Thonglor or Saladaeng)
A trendy, hipster, eco-friendly mall in Thonglor, The Commons boasts a number of local restaurants and coffee shops including Roast and Roots.
The semi-outdoor mall opens at 8 am. Early enough to get your morning coffee fix.
How to get there? It’s recommended to take a local taxi or Grab. If you want to brave the sun it’s possible to walk north for 20 minutes from BTS Thong Lor.

Rocket Coffeebar S.12
If you’re staying in the Silom area, another trendy coffee shop is Rocket with outdoor seating and a great brunch menu.
Rocket is open from 7 am onwards.
How to get there? Located 10 minutes walk from BTS station Chong Nonsi on the dark green line.
