I stayed for two nights in Mai Khao in 2023 for a short break in Phuket and selected Avani+ Mai Khao Phuket Suites because of its raving positive reviews, prime location, and proximity to the airport as well as Mai Khao beach.

Price
The price of this hotel ranges from 10k – 30k per night / per room, with prices changing based on season and demand.
My stay at the hotel
Upon arrival at the hotel, the staff members were very helpful with our bags and getting us all checked in.
The hotel surroundings have a great tropical feel with lots of greenery to admire, and at the open-air reception area, there was a nice water feature and fountain.
I booked the two-bedroom standard suite but got upgraded to the two-bedroom sunset suite with views over the ocean upon arrival at no extra cost (we just asked the reception staff if they had any upgrade options).

I was staying at the hotel as a group of 5, so we ordered an extra bed for an additional 1,000 THB, which they’ll promptly set up upon check-in.
The room was 128 sqm, so large compared to most hotels I’ve stray at in Phuket. It was also nicely decorated with large bathrooms, a kitchen area, and a full-sized balcony with enough room space for 4-6 people to sit outside.

The kitchen
To my surprise, the kitchen was fully equipped for long-stay travelers and would be ideal for self-catering if you prefer to cook your meals (the is also a supermarket opposite the resort). I wasn’t expecting such a large kitchen!
The kitchen was kitted with:
- Nespresso machine
- Separate washer and dryer
- Full-size fridge stocked with wine and beverages
- Microwave
- Toaster
- Rice cooker!
- Full-size sink
- Complementary coffee and tea
- Enough tableware and cutlery for 4-5 people
The rooms

The bedrooms were large and decorated in a nice floral but simplest design. The rooms have en suite bathrooms with separated his/her sinks, shower room, and toilet.
The larger two rooms had a benchtop desk with a chair and a large bathtub with atmospheric lighting.

The amenities in the showers were also a nice touch and seemed locally sourced with natural ingredients.
The breakfast
The breakfast, which is served from 7 am until 10:30 am, had a large selection of cooked and premade international and Thai cuisine.
Cooked breakfast could be made custom to order by the breakfast chef.

The was also a large selection of local fruits, including passion and dragon fruit.
My only issue about the breakfast was that there wasn’t any plant-based milk on display (although the staff could have probably provided that upon request).
There were cereals on offer, but most were sugar-based, and no choice of plain muesli.

Final thoughts
Overall my stay at Avani+ Mai Khao was delightful, and I would highly recommend it to anyone planning to explore the north of Phuket in the Mia Khao region. I thought this area was perfect if you want to avoid the busier areas of Phuket and experience quieter, more beautiful beaches.
The hotel has so many activities you probably don’t need to leave the grounds, but if you want to venture afield there are plenty of transport options for getting around the island.
The location tops it for my recommendation of this hotel because it’s just a 15-minute drive from the international airport and a 5-minute walk from the peaceful beach!
